G'Day everybody. Sorry I've been slow in updating the blog. Have become extremely busy, as Marshall and I are now working 40 hour a week jobs along with our other responsibilities. I will explain our job a little bit. We are working at a port where they refurbish and work on old ships. Originally we were told that we were going to be doing some type of security work, but that is not the case at all. We are what they call "sentries" and basically what we do is sit around all day and wait. Our responsibility is to go with tradesman into the boat when they are working in "confined spaces" and we basically monitor them and make sure they are safe. Right now they are working on a Navy submarine, so I get to actually go inside the submarine. Pretty cool stuff, but those things definitely are not made for people over 6 foot! For the first three days we have sat in the work room for at least 6 hours each day waiting for people to come get us, and then when we are "working" we just sit there. I don't know if it will stay this way for the next 3 months but if it I will get a lot of reading done while I'm waiting to be assigned. Our hours are 6:30-3, with a half hour lunch break.........Now to some baseball, this was a much better weekend for me both as a coach and a player. My U-16 actually lost on Saturday but we played a good team and we are getting better. The U-18's won big, 20-2. They are a good group and should be the favorites to win the whole league if their coach doesn't screw it up. On Sunday I started and had a good outing. We won the game 12-4. I gave up 3 runs in 4 1/3 innings. I'm still getting my pitch count up, and I really ran out of gas in the 5th inning. It was good to see our offense explode like that, that was the first game they scored more then 3 runs! I have some pictures to post on here of the "field" we played at on Sunday, by far the worst thing that I've played on since I was in middle school. Everybody should get a good laugh about it......Had a pretty scary incident happen last night at our practice, I was stretching with a rubber tube and had it come undone and come back and hit me square in the left eye. It was probably the most painful thing I've had in quite sometime, and I had blurred/to zero vision for the next 4 hours out of the left eye. After icing the eye twice though, my vision started to come back and by the time I went to bed it was basically normal. I woke up this morning being able to see, but with a very sore eye! Needless to say I was a little rattled. Other then that things are going great, staying super busy! Friday night will be our first free night in about two weeks, so hopefully we'll go find some fun!.....Forgot to mention, saw a pretty strange thing to me the other day. Went to the mall on a nice day, was probably about 90 degrees, walked through the Target store and they were putting up their full display of X-Mas items. Seemed wierd, doesn't feel like winter time. Here is some Aussie slang for you.....
Bogan- basically White Trash....some of the team members say that me and Marshalls neighborhood is rather bogan.
Bottle Shop- liquor/beer store. Only place you can buy alcoholic beverages from.
brekky- breakfast....McDonalds advertises serving "brekky" until 10:30
"how you going"- thats how they say "how are you doing"
Sausage Sizzle- A barbeque serving hot dogs/burgers. We have a "sausage sizzle" at all of our games.
Dodgy- means sketchy...Like that part of town is very Dodgy.
Footie- Aussie rules football
Soccer- is soccer
Gridiron Football- Is American Football
Cheers- What they say instead of "Thank you"
