Food in Australia
The food on a whole is very similar to what we have back in the states. But their are a few things that I find different and they also call certain food items by different names. One of the better things that I've got to experience here was going out for a proper Indian Curry. these type of restaurants are very popular here. About 8 of us went out and all got a different dish and I got to try all the different types of Curry dishes. It was very good. We also went over to a club members house for roast Lamb, and it was very good. They really like their lamb down here, very popular. I've finally tried Vegemite, can't say that I was a huge fan of it. Every Aussie tells me a different way that they like it and how I should try it. I'll probably have it again, but not something I'll go out of my way to have. If you go out for breakfast and order a breakfast meal, usually a small side of baked beans and a piece of cooked tomatoe are served with you eggs, meat, and potatoes. I found that wierd. "Kebabs" are very popular down here, a kebab here is basically like Pita Pit back home. Meat and vegetables wrapped in flat bread. They are good. I usually take a PB&J with me to work, and I get a lot of crap about that. They don't have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches down here. Don't think that it goes together. Also its called Jam down here, Jelly to them is JELLO back home. Also another food that I've become quite fond of are "lollies", essentially its candy or fruit snacks. Pretty addicting. Last observation on food, when you are asked if you want to go to dinner. They ask you if "you want to go have a feed?" Man I love eating food.
