So I got the opportunity to compete in a pretty cool baseball series these past 3 days. In Australia they play an Australian National Championships. 5 of the 6 states are represented and they play a round robin tournament over 1 month on the weekends. You have to be an Australian native to play on one of those teams. The team in Western Australia is called the Perth Heat, and the are comprised of mostly guys from right in Perth. Our club team has 5 guys plus our pitching coach on their team. They have around 10 guys who are currently with Major League Organizations in the Minor Leagues. Plus quite a few more who previously played with a pro club. The Heat are the defending Australian National Champions...........So their season is about to start, and for their exhibition games they put together a "Team USA" team down here. They took all the imports here in the league and called us Team USA. We had a couple of Canadians and a Dutch guy too, but they also wore the Red, White and Blue. Our team had some good players on it..3 guys who played in AAA, one guy who was in Big League Camp with the Cubs this past Spring. But we also had a few guys who play indy ball, and others who also played pro ball. Then we had a few guys who are just old and washed up but they needed to fill the roster. Needless to say the Heat beat the crap out of us all 3 games. We lost 14-8, 9-4, and 6-1. I got to pitch in the 2nd game of the series and actually did very well. Came in with the bases loaded and 2 outs and got us out of the jam. Then threw 2 more scoreless innings. Overall 2 1/3 innings, 1 strikeout, 0 hits, 1 walk. It was fun to play in that type of atmosphere, their were close to 2,000 people there. Overall it was a great experience. We were a rag tag American bunch, but the Heat got some good work in for their exhibition series and it got a good amount of fans. I can say this too, even though we weren't at all any type of national team, it was an honor to be able to wear Team USA and play in a foreign country and stand out there for our National Anthem.
