Australian "Ute"

These are all examples of a "ute", which is short for utility vehicle. Essentially they are just little two wheel drive pickups that have a flat bed on them. Or as you can see some of them are a little more "high class" and are more like a car. This type of vehicle is very popular down here. You don't see any big trucks down here at all. I have seen maybe one Ford F-150 my whole time down here. Large SUV's are also never seen, have not seen one Suburban/escalade/ or tahoe, and only one or two Hummers. The preference in vehicles down here is obviously very contrasting to the preference of Amercian vehicle owners. People that I've talked to down here cite that their vehicles are more economically friendly, and save on gas prices.....blah blah blah. They need some Big 4x4's down here!
