Our next stop was Stuart Scott’s family’s house. This was our final destination and we were invited (and instructed) that we would be staying the night at the house. Stuart Scott is basically the reason that both Marshall and I are here in Perth. He played ball in the states at Western Oregon University and then coached a year at Treasure Valley CC(2001) under Gary Van Tol (my old pitching coach). It just so happens that one of the players on the team that year was sophomore outfielder Marshall Bratton. Stuart then came back to play and coach at his home club of South Perth. He is a diehard baseball guy and has went out of his way to make sure Bratty and I have been treated good. Currently Stu lives over in Sydney with his wife Pam, so our Christmas Cheer would be at his parents’ house. Like I said we were instructed that we would be spending the night at the house, so that meant that it was my turn to try and catch up to the status Coach Bratton was at. Stu also was starting to get very thirsty by this point, as he had been at his in-laws all day, and apparently in-laws somehow have a way of making a guy thirsty. Once again we ate some more food, and prawns were one of the main dishes. We were also again given gifts, I received an authentic pair of Australian flip flops. It was a good gift. Mr. and Mrs. Scott were very gracious hosts, and Stu’s siblings were also very welcoming. Side note on Stuart Scott, he is a very honest and upfront type of guy. Not afraid to give you his opinion or tell you how he feels, sort of the Australian way. Needless to say the apple didn’t fall to far from the tree, as his Mom was the exact same way. It was great, very comical at times. We spent the night having a few beers and talking baseball, it was a great way to finish off our first Australian Christmas.
